As a B Badge Netball Umpire and a Netball Umpire Coach, Tester and Mentor, I use the golden rule of POSITION = VISION & VISION = DECISION From this formula, I think that netball umpires will need to learn how to read the game so they are always in the correct place, being in the correct position will mean an umpire needs to have the appropriate vision of the courtroom and will then be able to make the correct decision in relation to any sanctions that may or may not have to be awarded during a netball match. Netball is the most popular women's team participation sport in Australia. There have been 347,000 players. In 1995, there were over 360,000 Australian players. Throughout most of Australia's netball history, the sport has been a participation game; it has not managed to become a spectator sport. In 2005 and 2006, 56,100 Australians attended one to 2 netball matches. Of them, 41,600 were women. 46,200 attended five netball matches, with 34,400 of those spectators being girls.86,400 attended six or more netball matches, with 54,800 spectators being female.
